Make These Books into Movies Already
I will preface this by saying that I own a t-shirt that says, “The book was better.” And this blog doesn’t change the fact that I will always insist people read the book before they see the movie. But there are some books that also are begging to be made into movies. They’re cinematic on the page, so seeing how they would be brought to life with a little movie magic would be amazing. Now I trust that you’ve read all of these titles, but if not, what are you waiting for? They need to be made into movies already, so get to reading so you can go see the films as soon as they hit screens.
Emmett

It’s a modern-day gay Emma, need I say more? It needs to be made into a movie. Hello! There are references to the classic movie Clueless in the novel, and Emmett needs the same silver screen treatment. From the world of Highbury Academy to the abundance of romance and the sharp examination of social dynamics, it’s a match made in heaven. Plus you know the outfits, the music, and the whole production would be amazingly over-the-top.
Daughter of Sparta
As a proud Classics-nerd, I have seen MANY a mythology-inspired movie, TV series, mini-series, etc. From BBC’s TV adaptation of Robert Graves’ I, Claudius to Disney’s Hercules, I can’t get enough. A reinterpretation of Daphne and Apollo, Daughter of Sparta (and it’s sequel obviously) is just begging to be brought to life on screen.
6 Times We Almost Kissed (And One Time We Did)

Who doesn’t love a good romcom? No one. (And if you don’t, I don’t know you. Sorry.) 6 Times We Almost Kissed (And One Time We Did) totally gives off romcom vibes, while also bringing real heart that would be perfect. The present day, mixed with flashbacks to the past, and the will-they-won’t-they energy? Grab your popcorn!
Belladonna

This Gothic-infused world, and Death himself, need to be brought to…life? But seriously, I’m dying to see Signa’s powers on screen, see the mystery, the romance, the spirits. (Ok I’m a scaredy cat so a few might make me jump but I’m still here for it!) And something tells me Thorn Grove would be stunningly beautiful in the eeriest of ways. It’s the perfect movie for a stormy night, when you want something a little spooky, a little seductive, with lots of intrigue.
So Let Them Burn

Dragons. I mean I should just leave it at that because I selfishly want to see these dragons brought to life, but also a kick-butt heroine, divine magic, conflicting choices, the power of sisters, AHH. This Jamaican-inspired fantasy needs to be brought to a screen near me, please!
Only She Came Back
This is the perfect thriller, filled with suspense from beginning to end. Plus it’s totally scary and creepy in parts. Literally you’d be on the edge of your seat, even though if you’ve read it you know what happens, you want to see it all play out on screen. To see how each of these characters acts around each other, to see flashbacks as they tell their sides of the story. I feel like this is a film I’d be too chicken to see in theaters because I’d be so jumpy. But I still want to see it! Just curled up on the couch with a blanket.
The Cruel Prince

The Cruel Prince, and most of Holly Black’s faerie novels, come up quite a bit in my daily conversations. But I am always talking about the beginning of The Cruel Prince and how quickly it draws you in. It’s forever seared into my brain (not complaining!) I mean, it might be a little terrifying but could you imagine the opening scenes of a movie adaptation? OMG. Plus…I mean, are we not curious about Cardan’s tail?
Frostblood

I love winter, so I might be biased that I want to see this fantasy brought to life in all its icy glory! Plus, for those preferring warmer settings, Ruby is a Fireblood and while she’s spent most of her life concealing her powers, nothing burns quite like revenge. Fire and ice battling it out? I am 100% here for it.
The Inheritance Games
Does this book not have massive Knives Out energy? IS THERE NOT A PERFECT SCENARIO WHERE A HAWTHORNE BROTHER COULD LOOK EVEN MORE DASHING THAN CHRIS EVANS IN A CREAM-COLORED SWEATER? The twists and turns, the brothers, the mystery, the brothers, the puzzles…the brothers. We all have our dream cast, but no matter what, this is a thrill ride I am impatiently anticipating.
Phoebe’s Diary

I was torn because I adore that this is pulled from Phoebe Wahl’s actual diary, and the illustrations and composition make this book so cool to read. But I also would kind of love a screen version to see this completely honest, awkward, awesome story brought to life. And it could largely be based on the fact that I love movie soundtracks, and this would, without a doubt, have the most EPIC soundtrack ever.
