The You’ve Goth My Heart Playlist: Curated by L. C. Rosen
This is a hard one, because goth music means different things to different people. Some want vampire vibes, some seek industrial, some think it’s going screaming rage and misery set to music. So I tried to mix it up. There’s some eldergoth stuff – Siouxie, Rasputina – and some of the cool new young goth stuff – Drab Majesty, Night Club. I also threw in goth covers of pop songs, and stuff from Labyrinth, industrial, goth folk, Turkish post-punk – an assortment – because goth runs a gamut! Sometimes it’s fun dark camp, sometimes it’s genuine soul screaming misery. I’m sure there are darker souls than I who will feel this is not a true goth playlist, and they’re probably right! But here are some songs that really suit YOU’VE GOTH MY HEART. And Friday I’m in Love, which isn’t really goth, but which features in the book.
In any case, here’s some music you can wallow in misery with:
- Transylvanian Concubine – Rasputina
- Cruelty – Unwoman
- Dear Prudence – Siouxie and the Banshees
- Gossip – Night Club
- The Heiress – Drab Majesty
- The Queen is Dead – The Smiths
- As The World Falls Down – David Bowie (Labyrinth soundtrack)
- A Forest – The Cure
- Inziva – She Past Away (you must check out the music video for this one)
- Once in a While – Rosegarden Funeral Party
- I’m Only Happy When it Rains – Garbage
- This Corrosion – Sisters of Mercy
- Silhouette – Creux Lies
- Your Body Changes Everything – Perfume Genius (Boy Harsher remix)
- Complainer – Choir Boy
- Brand New Key – Rasputina
- Close To You – Iain Bellamy (from the Mirrormask Soundtrack)
- Friday I’m in Love – The Cure
When Gray gets a text from a wrong number, he’s pretty sure it’s a serial killer—or worse, his ex—on the other end of the line. But, the anonymous texter shares his same taste in music and movies, and Gray’s bored while stuck at home all summer, so why not respond? Being anonymous actually helps them open up to each other, and Gray finds himself hopeful that this could be his dream goth crush. All they have to do is meet—on Halloween, the night of Sleepy Hollow’s big house-decorating contest, and the perfect opportunity for Gray to show his mystery texter his true feelings.
But between Gray’s closeted ex coming back into the picture, a cute but obnoxious new goth kid vying to win the contest, and a maybe serial killer lurking around and killing local gay teens, Gray’s prospects are looking grim. Come Halloween, he’ll either get his dream guy or die trying…
You’ve Goth My Heart is the romantic and hilarious accidental-connection romance you don’t want to miss!
