Eldritch Horror to Put the Fear of the Gods Into You

There are two types of people in this world. Those who indulge in the unknown, the unknowable, and the all-out terrifying. And those who don’t. I don’t know, there’s just something about diving into the world of a story where everything is out of your control. Call me crazy. I guess when real life seems so unknowable, so senseless, I am comforted by stories that are more terrifying than real life. So, without further ado, here are some books with Eldritch-Horror vibes to put the fear of the Gods(!) into you.

Disciples of Chaos

by M. K. Lobb

If you read the first book in this duology, Seven Faceless Saints (which you should, because it’s very good!), you’ll know the world of Ombrazia is filled with dark forces and precarious power structures. Well, Disciples of Chaos is all of the above and more! It’s still romantic, still deadly, but the stakes are all the higher as Roz and Damian’s world begins to crumble around them.

The Diviners

by Libba Bray

There is something about the 1920s that feels particularly creepy to me––no offence to the 20s. I love the decade. I wish I lived in it! Still…slightly creepy. The Diviners: also creepy. It’s 1926 in New York City, and Evangeline O’Neill has been sent to live with her uncle. The only problem is she must keep a dark secret from him: she has supernatural powers. When the police find a murdered girl branded with a cryptic symbol and the uncle is called to the scene, Evie realizes her gift could help catch a serial killer. But, unknown to all, something dark and evil has awakened….

The Devouring Gray

by C. L. Herman

Nothing like escaping into a world with a lifeless dimension that contains a brutal monster, am I right? Said dimension is called the Gray, and the Gray is growing stronger everyday as its victims pile up. When Violet, a member of one of the founding families of Four Corners, New York, accidentally unleashes the monster, she and two others must band together with the other Founders to unearth the dark truths behind their families’ abilities…before the Gray devours them all.

And the Trees Crept In

by Dawn Kurtagich

Even the title, And the Trees Crept In, gives me the chills. Even more chilling is what this book is about: When Silla and Nori arrive at their aunt’s home, it’s immediately clear that the “blood manor”––yes, “blood manor”!!!––is cursed. Filled with unsettling twists and turns and achingly beautiful, chilling language that delivers haunting scenes, And the Trees Crept In is the cosmic horror you didn’t know you were missing!

CANCER (WATER SIGN): SILVER
The Hearts We Sold by Emily Lloyd-Jones

The Hearts We Sold

by Emily Lloyd-Jones

This Faustian tale is full of eldritch horrors, from the demons who make deals with humans in exchange for a limb to further otherworldly threats that emerge as Dee Moreno makes a deal with a demon not for a typical arm or leg, but for her heart. Part love story, part Stranger Things-esque horror, this book will keep you guessing until the very end!
