The 2018 Holiday NOVLbox

From Santa’s Bookshop brings you the little elves to fill your shelves… we’ve come together and chosen four books for a very special holiday NOVLbox. 2018 has been a fantastic year for NOVL—each day, we feel more and more love radiating from you all. While we can’t give you a physical hug, we’re sending all of you virtual hugs for filling our hearts every day. Happy Holidays from Team NOVL, and we hope your holidays are filled with everyone and everything that brings you joy!

There is much to be said about The Unlikelies by Carrie Firestone. For one, this is the first book I ever worked on when I started my job here, so it holds a very special place in my heart. Second, this book is a gift in itself, because a gorgeous hard case awaits you under the dust jacket. Third, the story celebrates good deeds and unlikely friendships under the warm summer sun, which is much needed in the frosty months.

With love,
Valerie

In the cold, frigid winter months, I like reading books that remind me that warmth, does in fact, exist: so books about summer, books that make me feel fuzzy inside, books that have a bright, colorful feel to them. So obviously I’m gonna pick The Revolution of Birdie Randolph by Brandy Colbert! I adore all of Brandy’s books, but she just keeps getting better and better. And because the book doesn’t come out until August 2019, and I NEED someone else to bask in its glory, it’s going in the box!

With love,
Natali

We Contain Multitudes by Sarah Henstra drew me in completely with first: the Walt Whitman references and second: the way Jo wears corduroy jackets and bow ties, which I think I need more of in my own wardrobe. As Jonathan and Adam fall into a deep friendship then a deeper relationship, while they write letters back and forth for an English assignment, I felt my own emotions spiraling as I turned the pages. There is something so personal about writing a letter to someone, like bearing a soul. You’ll be completely enamored.

The book I’ve chosen to include in this NOVLbox is Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi. If you’ve ever read any of his books, you know Paolo Bacigalupi is a master of poignant science fiction. This book is heart-wrenching, raw, and set in a dark, vivid future. I encourage everyone to read it, especially if you’re a fan of sci-fi. And even though this book was a National Book Award Finalist and a New York Times Bestseller, I still think it is thoroughly underappreciated and deserves more praise and attention. Paolo Bacigalupi is one of my favorite writers and his work is absolutely brilliant. I hope you love Ship Breaker as much as I do!
