4 Things Your Prayers DON’T Need to Be

Do you ever feel like you don’t know how to pray or what words to use? Prayer is an essential part of the Christian life, but it can be challenging! In How to Talk with God, Joyce Meyer helps remove the obstacles to effective prayer to help us deepen our connection with God. Keep reading to discover 4 things your prayers DON’T need to be.

1. They DON’T have to be long.

The length of our prayers makes no difference to God. There’s no correlation between how long a person prays and whether God answers. All that matters is that we pray the way He is teaching us to pray and that our prayers are Sprit-led, heartfelt, and accompanied by true faith. Pray until you are satisfied in your sprit, which will take longer on some days than it does on others.

2. They DON’T have to be complicated.

Praying is the easiest thing in the world and should come as naturally to us as breathing. We can pray anytime, anywhere. Be free from everything you have heard about the formulas of prayer or the positions of prayer—and just pray. Use simple words that plainly communicate your heart and begin to enjoy it as the simple privilege God intends it to be.

3. They DON’T have to be eloquent.

I urge you to just be yourself when you pray. Prayer should be a natural extension and expression of your normal communication style. God made us the way we are, so we need to approach Him without pretense and without thinking we have to sound a certain way in order for Him to hear us. As long as we are sincere, He will hear.

4. They DON’T have to be perfect.

God views us as righteous even though we still make mistakes. Because He sees us as righteous, we have a God-given right to pray and expect our prayers to be heard. God doesn’t answer our prayers because we are good, but because He is good.
