My name’s Kelly, and I’m a Design Assistant at LBYR, assisting the Creative Director with picture books and some middle grade. I started at LBYR after finishing the Columbia Publishing Course and I’ve loved it here ever since! I love almost any coming-of-age story, but my favorite books usually have a dark and creepy side. I’m also a coffee and dog obsessed west coast native.
Favorite Book of All Time
Who can choose just one?? A Series of Unfortunate Events made me a reader. Ten-year-old me would say, “I like these books because there’s no happy endings.” My taste hasn’t changed too much. Also, snark.
Favorite LBYR Book
Also tough, but I’ve always loved Libba Bray and The Diviners was amazing!
Book You’ve Been Meaning to Read for a While
I love everything by Neil Gaiman, but for some reason Stardust has been collecting (star)dust on my shelf for some time.
A Signed Book on Your Shelf
I Most recently I got G’Morning, G’Night signed by Lin Manuel Miranda and Jonny Sun, but honestly I felt privileged enough just to share the same oxygen with them for 30 seconds.
A Weird Literary Fetish
I love finding used books with hand writing in them. Seeing the history of a book behind the handwritten words is kind of magical to me.
Most Worn-Out (but Well-Loved) Book
The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. It’s a treasure trove of wisdom for anyone who’s every wanted to pursue anything but gets in their own way. It sounds self-help-y but it’s actually very concise and smart.
Favorite Book Cover
As a designer, this is so hard to answer. All of V.E. Schwab’s covers are stunning with amazing artwork.
Non-Book Bookish Item
I love my Moleskine notebooks, which are full of all my notes, ideas, and sketches.
