Me, my shelf, + I // Elena
Introduce Yourself // Hi there, I’m Elena! I’m the digital marketing manager at Little, Brown Young Readers. I spread the love of books through the social platforms and more! If you’re talking books, I’m listening.
Favorite Book of All Time // Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. Ella of Frell, you have my heart forever. Also, was Char a super formative book crush? Absolutely. We are not going to talk about the movie.
Favorite LBYR Book // The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. True confession: I begged for a copy way before I even knew I would be working here. Everything about The Cruel Prince is made to be obsessed over. Dark in the best ways with a hate-to-slightly-less-than hate sexual tension that I ate up like a goblin’s fruit.
Book You’ve Been Meaning to Read for a While // One-Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. I love magic realism and this is THE magic realism book. One day…
A Signed Book on Your Shelf // The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I locked myself in the bathroom and cried for twenty minutes once I finished this book. When I love something, I love it completely. So I wrote Markus Zusak slightly over-enthusiastic letter and he replied! I later even traveled to see him for a book event. The line was so long that I decided I was going to write out what I was going to say to him. His response? “You’re a great writer!” I freaked out. I’m still freaking out!
A Weird Literary Fetish // I care deeply about book covers and aesthetics so if I love a book but hate the cover, I will track down a different edition. Luckily, it’s easier these days to order across the sea but there’s something thrilling about getting something you’ve been looking for ages.
Unexpected Book that You Love // Any Agatha Christie book. I’m a huge fan of true crime, murder mysteries, and cozy mysteries. I love that I’ll always have a book by her to read because I’ve been savoring it slowly. I’m in awe of her talent and ability to write so many books that they take up a whole shelf.
Book that You Think Everyone Should Read // Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. It is mega confusing the first one-hundred pages but once it clicks, it CLICKS. Melina Marchetta’s writing burrows deep into your bones and leave you aching for more.
